How to tune to Karaoke Bagpiper

There are generally three variations of each backing track. These are set to typical tunings for the instruments they are made for and you should be able to set that tuning on your own instrument with minimal effort. Your instrument should be close to a matched pitch by default, but if you are not sure how to tune your instrument read further below.

The instruments we set you up for are :

Tuning for Bagpipes ?

Play along with the Low A on your bagpipes tuned to 480Hz. To tune your Low A download the Tune It Lite free app and select settings "piano average".  Play your Low A and adjust until it shows 480Hz on the screen.  If it starts lower then sharpen the reed (insert further in the seat) , if it starts higher then flatten the reed (lift further out of the seat) until it matches 480Hz.

Tuning for Practise Chanter ?

Play along with the Low A on your practise chanter tuned to 466Hz. To tune your Low A download the Tune It Lite free app and select settings "piano average".  Play your Low A and adjust until it shows 466Hz on the screen.  If it starts lower then sharpen the reed (insert further in the seat) , if it starts higher then flatten the reed (lift further out of the seat) until it matches 466Hz.

Tuning for Smallpipes (In Key of A) ?

Play along with the Low A on your bagpipes tuned to 440Hz. To tune your Low A download the Tune It Lite free app and select settings "piano average".  Play your Low A and adjust until it shows 440Hz on the screen.  If it starts lower then sharpen the reed (insert further in the seat) , if it starts higher then flatten the reed (lift further out of the seat) until it matches 440Hz.
